Decolonizing Knowledge, Culture, and Society in Post-Revolutionary Contexts
01 December 2026 · Abstracts due 31 October 2026
The relationship between technology and knowledge has long been a subject of serious scholarly inquiry. As digital tools reshape the ways in which cultures are documented, languages are preserved, and histories are communicated, the academic community faces a genuine and important responsibility: to examine these developments with critical rigour, ethical awareness, and disciplinary breadth.
It is with this responsibility in mind that the University Centre of Illizi, through its Institute of Letters and Languages, is pleased to convene the First National Hybrid Conference on Digital Humanities in the Global South: Decolonizing Knowledge, Culture, and Society in Post-Revolutionary Contexts.
Digital Humanities, as a field, occupies a productive intersection of the humanities, social sciences, and information technology. This conference recognises that scholarly engagement with digital methods must be informed by the diversity of cultural, historical, and linguistic contexts in which those methods are applied. Questions concerning digital archives, the preservation of oral traditions, multilingual representation, algorithmic visibility, and the ethics of heritage documentation are of broad relevance — and merit sustained, evidence-based discussion from multiple academic perspectives.
The University Centre of Illizi is committed to fostering an environment of open intellectual exchange, where researchers at all career stages can present their findings, engage with peers, and contribute to advancing knowledge in their respective fields. This conference brings together scholars from Literature, History, Cultural Studies, Sociology, Media Studies, and Digital Humanities, reflecting our institutional belief in the value of interdisciplinary dialogue.
We extend a formal welcome to all participating researchers, presenters, and attendees. We encourage contributions that are methodologically sound, analytically clear, and oriented toward advancing collective understanding. The quality of scholarly conversation depends on the precision and intellectual honesty each participant brings to the table.
We look forward to the productive exchanges this conference will generate, and trust that its proceedings will serve as a meaningful contribution to the wider academic literature.
Digital humanities projects have expanded across Africa, the Arab world, and beyond. Yet the categories used to build digital archives, organize data, and circulate research often reflect unequal histories of knowledge production. What counts as an archive, whose languages are represented, and who controls the infrastructure through which cultural memory becomes visible?
This conference brings literature, history, cultural studies, sociology, media studies, and digital humanities into conversation. It invites empirically grounded and critically engaged work on colonial legacies, revolutionary histories, cultural memory, identity, and the possibilities of digital futures in the Global South.
Contributions may address these areas or closely related questions.
